Quick Overview

Clear, directional audio on the GO!

Compact and light weight by design, the VideoMic GO delivers clear, crisp, directional audio with incredible ease of use. Its tight pickup area focuses directly in front of the microphone and reduces other surrounding sounds, ensuring that your subject is isolated from distracting background noise.

The integrated Rycote® Lyre® shock mount isolates your microphone from bumps and vibrations that could otherwise interfere with your sound.

Constructed from a single piece of hard-wearing thermoplastic, the Lyre® provides superior acoustic suspension to traditional elastic solutions, and will never wear out, sag or snap.

The VideoMic GO has no complicated switches or settings and is powered by your camera's external microphone input, requiring no batteries to operate, ensuring you never miss a great shot.

The RØDE VideoMic is a professional grade 1/2" condenser shotgun microphone designed for use with consumer video cameras and personal audio recorders.

The integrated Rycote® Lyre® based shock mounting system isolates the VideoMic capsule and electronics from its all-metal shoe mount, providing isolation from external physical factors that may cause unwanted rumble and vibrations in the microphone. Constructed from a single piece of hard-wearing thermoplastic, the Lyre® provides superior acoustic suspension to traditional elastic solutions, and will never wear out, sag or snap.

Its standard sized shoe mount also includes a 3/8" thread in the base for easy mounting on a boom pole or stand.

By employing a super-cardioid polar pattern the VideoMic becomes highly directional, focusing on the subject in front of the camera, and minimising any surrounding sounds.

In addition to the microphone's native 40Hz-20kHz response a selectable high-pass filter at 80Hz is available, which will prevent low end noise such as air conditioners and traffic from being recorded.

A -10dB and -20dB level attenuation (or PAD), selectable from inside the battery compartment, allows recording of loud sound sources, such as live music or motorsport.

The RØDE VideoMic directional on-camera microphone is designed in Australia and covered by RØDE Microphones' industry leading 10 year warranty.

The sound is much, much better with the VideoMic than with the standard microphone… There’s less environmental sound when recording voice; less reverb from the ‘room’, and less background noise. The voice itself is clear and crisp without being sibilant.

I shot all of the material hand-held, positively inviting handling noise. But there wasn’t any. Even when deliberately waving the camera around the Lyre suspension did its job. Compare this to using the camera mic, which picks up any contact with the camera body or lens.

News journalists with a VideoMic-equipped DSLR would be able to capture broadcast quality footage with high quality audio to match. In a tight squeeze (like a press scrum) it could be a killer combination.

The RØDE VideoMic (With Rycote onboard) raises the bar on DSLR sound and throws down the gauntlet to other manufacturers.
